It is summer and though we have not felt it so much yet here in Tokyo, everybody is trying to prepare for the heat of July and August. In terms of soap, I have made several blue-color soaps which have sold immediately and all I have left is the photos. It seems that many people in Japan associate the color blue with the scent of mint so most of the batches I made are mint-scented.
Before I began experimenting with micas, I used mostly clays and botanicals to color my soaps. The trend of using only and clearly natural ingredients in soapmaking has been very strong for the past several years in Japan and I was afraid that my mica-colored soaps would not sell. But… the fresh colors which we can achieve with micas have turned into a huge selling point.
My Blue Dreams Soap is scented with a blend of Japanese mint, tea tree, and tangerine essential oils and looks like this.
Even though I used a hanger the same length as the mold, the patterns of different bars differ significantly.
I believe this is because of the different way of pouring the colored soap at the end of the mold.
I wish you all a pleasant weekend.
