A couple of weeks ago I made a soap using the drop swirl. And guess what! After the February’s soap challenge (sponsored by Amy Warden at http://greatcakessoapworks.com/) was over I got that feeling that March’s challenge would be something about drops in the soap 🙂 I will have to make another soap using the same technique with different colors this time and I am still looking for inspiration.
However, here is the soap which I cannot enter in this month’s challenge 🙂
The drops do not look exactly as drops, do the? To get the white color of the base I used white kaolin and did not let the soap tho gel. Also, as olive oil sometimes gives greenish hues, I used high oleic sunflower instead. The drops were made with red kaolin. No palm oil but coconut, mango and shea butter. However, one of my friends who used it said that the lather was low so next time I should use more coconut oil – 18% do not give that fluffy lather which many people expect to get.
I have to think about what I really want to achieve (designwise) with the next soap I am going to make using the drop swirl.
Guess will dream about it some and then decide what it will be 🙂
I wish you a successful week.

I like the way it looks clean and simple, Maya. The red kaolin is a very pretty colour. Funny, the post I am working on, to be published tomorrow, is about kaolin. 🙂 I wonder what the colour of your soap would have been if you had not used kaolin. I have never used it to whiten soap. I read that it does not whiten, but only lightens. Your soap is a beautiful white, though.
I am still debating whether to join this month’s Soap Challenge. The drop swirl technique has become my current favourite. It produces beautiful results and it is not complicated to execute. I tend to avoid techniques that require a lot of utensils to be washed after. Haha! 🙂
[…] soap lighter, but it does not make it whiter. (However, Maya of Infusions blog, just posted her latest creation using kaolin to whiten soap. Does anyone else have experience using kaolin as a whitening […]
Thank you, Silvia. I enjoyed your post about kaolin. It was very informative and a good read for a soaper who loves using white kaolin.
I hope you decide to join this month’s challenge – cannot wait to see your new creations!
I do understand how you feel about washing the utensils after making soap. It can be time consuming and troublesome. I do not enjoy washing my used utensils either but the fun of making soap usually wins over and I usually end up spending more time at the sink than I have intended to 🙂
Very elegant soap – I love the pink kaolin swirls in the white base. I want to experiment with clays more and glad to see that this works well in the drop swirl.
Thank you, J. Yes, clay works really well in the drop swirl. I have been thinking about using some for the drop swirl but have not decided which colors to combine yet…
