I sit here and listen to the radio – something which fewer and fewer people do in Japan (so I am told). I like the night programs, the talk and music which the radio people choose. There is something comforting in letting yourself enjoy the choices of other people. I keep the lights off and the window open – the sound of the rain is a beautiful addition to the music. The smells of wet soil and greenery come in, too. A truly relaxing night.
About a month ago I made soap for the daughter of my friend. Arisa is a beautiful and cheerful little girl modeling for kids’ fashion magazines. The soap was tailor-made for her with evening primrose and jojoba oils. I left it unscented as essential oils are sometimes too stimulating. I really wanted to make some soap which both a girl and her mother might like. I allowed myself to use some pink kaolin confetti for the color bits – though simple, white and pink is a romantic color combination.
This is one of the simplest soaps I have ever made but making it has been one of the most satisfying experiences so far. I like the feeling of transparency while the soap remains milky white. White, simple, pure and unscented. A bliss.
I wish you a warm and sunny day.
